As a nurse mentor you are required by the NMC to demonstrate that you have updated annually and undertaken triennial review every 3 years. This updating and review enables you to remain on the local mentor register.

What are you required to do annually?

1. Attend an annual course update provided locally within your trust or independent organisation. This may be provided by the Practice Educator or one of the Academic in Practice team in your area.

Evidence: You will be required to sign a register of attendance at this event. This register is forwarded to the placement office, Local Practice Educators/Facilitators to input this data into your local mentor register.

Or

2. Attend a mentor conference. There is one held at Coventry University each academic term (October to January, February to May and June to September).

Evidence: You will be required to sign a register of attendance at this event. This register is forwarded to the placement office, Local Practice Educators/Facilitators to input this data into your local mentor register.

Or

3. Undertake the “Mentor Tool Kit learning object” and print off a certificate of completion (located on last page of the tool kit). The tool kit is found in the placement connect web site in the sub menu list : “Being a practice educator/mentor”. A copy of the certificate should be forwarded to your local practice educator/facilitator.

Evidence: This certificate is forwarded to Local Practice Educators/Facilitators within your organisation or to Julie Hibberd, Senior Clerical Assistant, Placements - Pre-registration Nursing, RC425 Richard Crossman Building, Coventry University if you are in the independent sector to input this data into your local mentor register.

What are you required to do 3 yearly?

You are required to undertake the “Triennial review process”.  Go to our quality monitoring section and watch the video for information.

Evidence: Complete the triennial review formtriennial review form. Once you have completed the form, please return it to your practice educator within your organisation or in the case of the independent sector to Julie Hibberd, Senior Clerical Assistant, Placements - Pre-registration Nursing, RC425 Richard Crossman Building, Coventry University.
