It is important that there is an induction for placement students so that they can quickly become comfortable with their new environment and gain an understanding of their responsibilities and what will be expected of them.

What should an induction contain?

Ideally, every placement should provide an induction for students, this can consist of:

  • Information about the placement
    • What it is about
    • Why there is a placement
    • Conditions treated
  • The team
    • Who they are
    • What the team members’ roles and responsibilities are
  • The area/community
    • Client/patient group
    • Social and economic demographic
  • Other services
    • Introduction to learning pathways
